As the third generation owner of a flower shop beside a large, historic cemetery, Marlene Fabian Stiles served clients who often shared their memories of joy and grief. She weaves this empathy into her writing, encompassing multiple genres.
Marlene and her writing partner Alice Hill have produced two regionally produced plays as well as a children’s chapter book, a Middle Grade coming-of-age novel and a matron's lit narrative focused on lifelong sibling rivalry. Marlene also teams up to write science fiction with her biologist brother Dr. Hank Fabian. Their space adventure “Moon Life” explores Jupiter’s water moon Europa in search of extraterrestrial life. Marlene has also written an Alzheimer’s narrative, “Elderchild,” based on her experiences as her mother’s caregiver but written in the first person to reflect the patient’s voice. Her poetry collection “Survival Poems to Help You through the Day” is dedicated to friend and resilient cancer survivor Lois Kleiner who read these poems each morning. Marlene's short stories appear in the Pikes Peak Writers' anthologies "Dream" and "Journeys into Possibility." Another will appear in an upcoming Scribes Valley publication. Her poetry appears in the anthology "She Speaks Up" as well as Clarendon House's "Poetica" volumes 5, 6, 11 and 13 along with a sci-fi story published in their "Galaxy 5."
More of Marlene's poetry and short stories can be found on her website storystyles.com.
Dedicated to passing a sustainable world to the next generation, Marlene serves as president of the I Will Projects, (theiwillprojects.com) a non-profit devoted to environmental preservation and food equity through community education.
